Simple Tips for Computer Desk Organizing

Home Organizing

Productivity wants to be your new BFF. But you're so busy looking for your mouse and that Post-it that you missed her text message. Spend less time looking for important notes and papers and more time creating, writing or communicating. Organize your computer desk. It could be the desk at home or the desk at work. A shared desk at home poses its fare share of challenges, but even that hurdle can be overcome with some ingenuity.

Simple Tips for Computer Desk Organizing

Do It Daily

If you're tired of hearing it, it's only because you haven't embraced the concept yet: file paperwork daily. Create a system which uses 31 daily folders. If something cannot be done today, file it for future action. The desk needs to be cleared off daily as well.

Certified Professional Organizer Bonnie Dewkett adds a piece of simple wisdom: "Take one item out at a time and address it." As easy as it sounds, it is also easy to feel overwhelmed by a stack of papers.

Stop Compartmentalizing Your Ideas and Lists

While the desk itself should be organized and compartmentalized, the best piece of advice for organizing your computer desk (and your to do list, and your creative chaos) comes from Jessica Dolan, Professional Organizer (Room to Breathe), " Keep only one notebook for capturing to-do's, ideas and meeting notes to avoid having to search through multiple notebooks to find what you need."

The Shared Desk

Each user will need their own place for file folders and important notes. A plastic magazine holder will suffice for a dozen or more folders. Hang up a divided bulletin board. Create dividers with ribbons, colored tape or use one square bulletin board for each user of the shared desk. Add each user's name plus a set of fun push pins, which will encourage your kid/spouse/roommate to use their own bulletin board space.
