The kitchen is the heart of any home. It's where meals are prepared, enjoyed and often times where everybody gathers. Do you want a great kitchen, but you're on a tight budget? Here are some quick and cheap tips to creating a great kitchen.

Kitchen cabinets can be an expensive ordeal. If your kitchen storage spaces are still in good shape consider adding a new door pull or knob. Decorative knobs can be found in any hardware store and some department stores. By adding a different knob, you get a completely different look at a fraction of the price.

A table can also be very pricey. Try making your own fabric place mats. Fabric is extremely inexpensive and with a few quick stitches, a different look can be accomplished. A kitchen table or eating area can take on a different look with colors of fabric. You can also make more than one type of placemat. Try making placemats for different seasons and holidays. It will add a festive feeling to your entire home.

Plain kitchen chairs may look boring, but they come with a hefty price tag. Jazz up a plain wooden chair with throw pillows or cushions. Cushions can be found to fit the exact dimensions of a chair. Every color in the rainbow and many different patterns can be used to create any look you desire.

We've covered cabinets, table, placemats, and chairs, what about plates? Purchasing new china can result in a few new plates for hundreds of dollars. Try heading into a dollar store or lower end department store. Plates can be found at a fraction of the price and are available in different shapes and sizes. Also, don't forget to look for sales. Why do plates have to match? You can try using different shades of blue or green to create a fun new look.

Do you have an old, ugly refrigerator that just won't die? Instead of trying to paint it, try making magnets out of your favorite pictures. A collage of family and friends adds warmth and familiarity to your space while covering up any imperfections. This same idea can be used for stoves.

Finally, try adding plants to your kitchen. You can grow herbs, small tomato plants or edible flowers. The plants add great color to any space and can be used to whip up some delicious meals.

As you can see a great kitchen just takes a little bit of creativity and effort. Think outside of the box and know there are no rules when it comes to your space.
