Simple Ways to Feel Better About Yourself and Your Life

Karen Wright

Are you finding yourself feeling more grumpy than usual? Or perhaps you are feeling a bit introverted and have a difficult time trying to motivate yourself to do anything more than necessary. It is perfectly normal to have an off day where you want to do nothing more than lounge around in your pajamas and do nothing. Doing this everyday though can affect you more than you realize and leave you wondering where you life has gone. Living a full and happy life is subjective, but here are some methods that will work for anybody.

Something you can do that will help not only you but the people in your environment is to stop complaining. Most people do not even realize how negative they are being. Things don't always go your way, but groaning about it will not make it better. In fact, it can actually make your day worse by putting the people around you in a negative mood. Pay attention to the things that you say on a daily basis. Before complaining, whether it be about the bad weather or the long line at the grocery store, try to change your thought into something positive. After all, things can always be worse. If you are unable to do this, then simply accept that there is nothing you can do about it and keep your mouth shut.

Another easy practice: smile. It is as simple as that. This may not make your day too much better by itself, but it can improve the mood of the people around you which can in turn rub off on you.

This next one is probably one of the most important in being happy in life. Don't compare yourself to others. It is very hard at times, but you have to accept that everyone is different and nobody is perfect. What makes this worse is that the people we compare ourselves to are often celebrities or models in magazines who have been airbrushed to look flawless. Accept yourself for who you are and learn to love both your appearance and your personality. Increasing your self esteem makes a big impact on your attractiveness and your confidence in everyday activities.

Also necessary and a little challenging is to stop worrying about what other people think. This is something that might take a little time if you are extremely self conscious. However, as you improve your self esteem and become more comfortable with yourself, you'll start to realize that most of the people you are worried about don't even matter that much. The people that do matter are your family and true friends, who will accept you no matter what.

Something else that will make you feel good about yourself is exercise. This has double the benefits as it will put you in a good mood while improving your body confidence.

The final tip for improving your life is to always keep yourself moving forward. Stand up to your fears and try new things. Mastering new skills will help you to feel accomplished and more interesting. Don't let fear or intimidation get in the way of doing what you want to do. Overcoming the things that are holding you back is key.
