Simple Weight-loss New Years' Resolutions

Abby Willow

Weight-loss resolutions come New Years can be difficult to keep, mainly because most of us have unrealistic (an uneducated) expectations. But guess what? There are super simple and easy New Year's resolutions that you can keep for your weight-loss goals.

Instead of depriving yourself of food, eat more of the foods that basically demand your body to lose weight. Omega-3 fatty acids do just that, so eat up on your nuts and salmon (and skip that steak). Omega-3s are those 'good' fats that actually help eliminate 'bad' fats- plus they're great for keeping your skin looking younger, longer! A great way to eat and lose weight at the same time!

How about simply drinking more water? Water is not only free, but it helps your body feel full, and replenishes you when you feel hungry (that hungry feeling? Usually it means you're thirsty, but we misinterpret what our bodies are telling us). Simply drinking one extra cup of water a day in the morning is a great start- and will boost your weight-loss goals.

Make some room for vegetables. Since your body usually spends more energy digesting veggies than the veggies actually have, most of these tasty foods are not only filling, but they help you burn more calories! Simply replace a small amount of your normal meal with a delish serving of your favorite vegetables (like carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts) and you won't feel deprived. You will notice your waistline diminish, however.

This one is actually pretty easy- simply eat less meat than you usually do. This doesn't mean go vegetarian, it simply means eat meat less frequently. You'd be surprised how filling a rice dish is in replacement of a fatty steak or chicken thigh. And it's cheaper, too. Skip meat in your meals every other day and you'll notice your wallet getting fatter while your waist gets smaller.

Another way to save money and stick to your weight-loss goals is to eat out less. Simply resolve to eat out once a week instead of 3 times a week, or resolve to make your own coffee at home instead of buying at the coffee shop. This not only saves you money and calories, but helps you make smarter food choices at home. This benefits you in the long run as well.

Don't think you can go jogging every single day? Then simply resolve to get a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day. Perfectly easy to do when you can see your progress every second. All it may take is parking further away from where you normally do.
