Simple Yellow Cake Recipe

Yellow cake has been around for a long time and everyone should have no problem baking this simple cake. It lends itself to many variations and is basically fail proof. The moist texture will make you come back for more!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup of flour
2 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 eggs
3/4 cup of milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt).
  3. In another bowl, mix together the butter (preferably softened), sugar, vanilla and eggs.
  4. Add the dry ingredients of the first stage to those of the second stage.
  5. Stir in milk gradually while stirring.
  6. When the mixture is well stirred, put in a greased baking pan about 9 inches by 9 inches (22x22 cm).
  7. Bake at 350 ° F (180 ° C) 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

FrostingThis simple frosting lends itself to many variations. Try change the type of extract for a different taste. Try a mint flavored frosting with a chocolate version of the yellow cake!
1/3 cup melted (or softened) butter1/4 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or any extract)1 pound confectioners sugar4 tablespoons milk

VariationsIt is possible to add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to this recipe to give it a chocolaty taste. Simply mix in the cocoa with the dry ingredients.

For a different taste, you may replace the vanilla extract with almond, orange, mint or even rose extract.

You can mix in food coloring and give your cake a unique look (try a few drops of red and transform this cake into a pink creation!

If you plan on making this cake for a birthday party, you can use novelty baking pans. Dollar stores sell many different kinds of pan and you can purchase them for a very low price.

This recipe (as well as the frosting recipe) can be adapted to make cupcakes. Add them to school lunches for a sweet treat!
