Simplicity

Darcy Sautelet
I love the simple things - the taste of a rain drop against my lips, the smile of a child still innocent of man's confusion and destruction, and the glow of the moon in the night sky. I enjoy the simplistic pleasure of a walk in the snow, the sounds of human voices, and the soft, sweet smell of a flower.

Simplicity is the answer to many of mans woes. In a simple world, little things could be exciting and appreciated. In the days before cars, a simple trip to town became an exciting adventure. Before planes, a voyage to other parts of the world was a tremendous accomplishment. Before toys that talk and walk and fly, a simple rag doll was a wonder.

Humans are now jaded. With our technology, nothing seems impossible. Nothing excites us. In our search for something to move us, thrill us, we go to extremes. We build huge adventure parks that simulate adventures we will never take. A trip to the store is just another boring chore. Driving at seventy five plus miles an hour, we miss the beauty of the earth around us.

Even the simple pleasure of sex has been overshadowed with toys and pornography. Flooded with false stimulation the human mind and body has to search and reach for new methods to excite until the beauty of human touch is not enough.

In this world, simplicity is lost. Governments are mega nightmares controlling every aspect of our world, more and more laws are made each day until even a Judge has to look up the law in a book, and points of law can be argued until people are blue in the face - when the simplicity of a set of basic rules based on human decency would serve (hmm, a bit like our original Constitution!).

If something is not profoundly complicated, humans seem to think it is not worthwhile. Everything must be bigger, better, richer, faster, prettier, flashier, more. We smother our lives in over stimulation until we find pleasure in nothing. The over stimulation of mind or body breeds dissatisfaction in all area's of our life. Stress levels continue to rise, relationships deteriorate, and many lengthy, redundant, asinine journals are written by over educated fools (sorry but there is a point when education becomes un-education ) - on the reason for our societal diseases.

The answer is simple (to be redundant). Simplicity. Choose to simply your life. Choose to enjoy the simple, little pleasures. Choose to enjoy the weather as it comes to you instead of waiting for the television to tell you what it will be. Choose to treasure the joys of your body and its natural sensations. Choose to drive slower, take a walk, to play in the rain, splash in a puddle. Choose to vote NO on new laws, no matter how good they may sound at the moment. Choose not to make things more difficult than they need to be. Simplicity - it is a beautiful thing.

Like a mathematical equation, the more complex the problem it answers is the more simple and elegant the solution. Your wisdom and accompanying advice is a lot like that. You could write a chapter on each incredibly true observation you confronted us with in this piece and you would have best selling book on par with "A Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. I'm a huge fan of yours! I get the first signed copy. Deal?
