Simply Apple: Apple Cider Taste Year Round?

Emily Harmon
I grew up in a family that made fresh pressed apple cider each fall. My parents still own a cider mill and make delicious apple cider occasionally. Apple cider at my parents' house is a seasonal item though and it is not always made from year to year. So when I saw Simply Apple apple juice at the grocery store I was intrigued. Simply Apple had the unmistakable brown color of apple cider. The not-from-concentrate Simply Apple was quite different from the processed and filtered apple juices typically seen in the grocery. So how does Simple Apple stack up to real pressed apple cider? Surprisingly well.

Simply Apple is produced by the same Florida company that creates Simply Orange orange juice. Simply Orange is the closest bottled orange juice to fresh squeezed I have ever tried so the brand name of Simply Apple gave me some real hope for this product.

Simply Apple is 100% apple juice. No water or preservatives of any kind have been added to Simply Apple. In fact, Simply Apple doesn't even have a traditional ingredients list on the bottle. There is simply a stamp that says '100% Apple Juice." While Simply Apple is pasteurized, it is not filtered so it does have the golden brown color characteristic of real apple cider.

So enough about the ingredients in Simply Apple, what about the taste? The taste of Simply Apple is remarkably similar to authentic apple cider. I have been drinking fresh apple cider my entire life, and while the jugs of apple cider that crop up in grocery stores in the autumn are a close comparison, Simply Apple is the first year-round product I have found that so closely resembles the real stuff. It is sweet and has a fullness of flavor that filtered apple juices lack. Simply Apple is a very delicious version of apple cider.

Simply Apple is found in the refrigerated section of the grocery store with other refrigerated juices. A 59 fluid ounce container will set you back about $3.99, a little pricey but worth it for the special taste. One 8 ounce glass of Simply Apple has 120 calories, 2% of your magnesium, and 7% of your potassium for the day.

If you long for the delicious apple cider taste of autumn year round, try the reasonable facsimile of Simple Apple. Simply Apple is indeed simply pure pressed apples with a clean, full flavor available all year at your local grocery store.

Wow, we don't have that brand here ... bummer too because it sounds fantastic. And, BTW I'm green with envy because y'all have a cider mill.

You've convinced me! I've gotten so desperate for cider that I've actually frozen fresh apple cider while it is in season. This would be a great alternative.
