This illustrious fiction writer once turned his career to comic books and even television. George RR Martin, comparable to Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind, has found merit in writing long drawn out novels.
Not to say that his role as writer of the "Beauty and the Beast" television series isn't notable. Quite the contrary.
Next on the list of accomplishments is his experience in the comic book industry. George RR Martin doesn't really rake in the merit with comic book fans either. He tackled intriguing superhero antics as one of the main editors for a series called "Wild Cards." George Martin also gave honorable mention to comic book writer Gerard Jones, for his work on "Men of Tomorrow."
The reason I fell into Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, and Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth, first was because George Martin was fiddling around writing for television and editing comic books. I became passionate about great fantasy through the other two, but George RR Martin shows a flavor to his writing that is so unlike theirs.
It is through "A Song of Ice and Fire" that George RR Martin gained illustriousness.
Warning: A George RR Martin novel is not for the weak of heart. Dire circumstances painted through George RR Martin stories are often provided insurmountable representation to an uncharacteristically fatal extent.
I say, "uncharacteristically," because fantasy writers are known for developing a colorful cast of dozens. Most of these characters never seem to die, and many of these stories never seem to end. Developments like this turn me off time and again.
However, George RR Martin seems to have his head screwed on straight. Few authors have ever achieved "character assassination" on a level with George RR Martin. No matter how important readers judge characters to be, George RR Martin displays quiet discipline. The well being of no character may overshadow his story. It is almost too characteristic of George Martin to kill characters. Yet the story has no problem with progression. There will be a timely end to "A Song of Ice and Fire." Because of this George RR Martin is in a league above Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan as a storyteller.
In George Martin's work, "good" does not always prevail, and "evil" is not easily defined. "A Song of Ice and Fire" is loosely considered the story of the Starks of Winterfell, rulers over the northern lands of Westeros in the name of their king. Of course, the very name and sovereignty of the rightful king is in question from the beginning. These things will likely remain so until the bitter end.
As of yet there are four titles in the bristling "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga. Each volume hovers around the 1000 page mark. George RR Martin has truly entered the 21st Century as one of America's leading Fantasy Fiction writers.
The titles of his works in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series are as follows:
"A Game of Thrones"
"A Clash of kings"
"A Storm of Swords"
"A Feast For Crows"
So enjoy George's Song as I do. It is bound to culminate into quite the staggering symphony.

Post a CommentYeah, Stu, I should stop writing about this stuff because your post was just Soooo full of facts?
I don't care about your opinion of who writes the best fantasy. If your not interested, why post anything? If I feel like writing something, that's what I will do.
dude you need to stop writing about this stuff. martin and jordan have entirely different writing skills and stories are so different it isn't a good idea to compare them. they are my favorite authors but the wheel of time is the best fantasy series of all time. If I am talking to someone about WOT and they don't agree with that I no longer am interested in having that conversation with them. Just stop writing these articles man
