Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing. This morning, since it is a new day and a new year, I thought I should make a few resolutions. I reflected on past years when I had resolved to do whatever, and while well intentioned, it only lasted a few days.
I realized as I put away my worn and tattered 2010 Daily Guideposts I was closing another chapter in my life. I held the book in my hands, caressing the cover, remembering the miles "my faithful friend" and I have shared together. That little devotional has been a part of my daily life for the past 365 days. As I reached for the new 2011 Daily Guidepost, Inspiration for Girlfriends (Ellen Miller), My Utmost for His Highest (Oswald Chambers) I felt the joy and peace and comfort returning.
I know each of us will be facing some type of storm in our lives. Maybe not today or even tomorrow, but it's on the horizon. And I also know from reading the words inside each of those devotionals I am not suffering alone. It's not about the words inside, it's not about "the book", but about the peace I find from reading His Word, the Bible.
It's from the prayer time I set aside each day. To be filled with Joy, each day. Joy is a choice. What happens to us is not. How we choose to deal with it is up to us. We can be the victim or the victor.
I close my eyes, rest my head for a moment and I can hear the singing. Maybe it's just the little birds outside feeding at the bird-feeder, but I do hear singing.
