Sing-a-ma-jigs: A Review

Vanessa Bartlemus
My almost 2 year old daughter recently received one of the new Singamajigs from my Aunt. She got the red one that sings, "Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone." At first my daughter was scared of it, because my husband made it "bite" his finger and then pretended it hurt. The rest of that day my daughter didn't want to go near it! However, the next day she started to warm up to it, and at nap time she fell asleep with it in her arms! She's actually playing with it right now as I write.

Singamajigs are adorable, colorful, and soft. They currently come in 15 different styles, and each one sings a different song. They have 3 modes: harmonize, chatter, and sing-a-song. You can change the mode by pressing its hand. To make it talk or sing, press its tummy. Its mouth will open wide in a cute 'o' shape as it talks or sings, revealing teeth inside which add to its cuteness. (The mouth has space where a kid may put their finger, but it doesn't hurt if the mouth closes on their finger.) During chatter mode, it makes little vowel noises rather than actual chatter. During singing mode, it sings one word of the song at a time. You can let it sing as fast or as slow as you want depending on how long you press on its tummy. You'll soon find yourself singing along! In harmony mode, it sings progressively higher notes, and the longer you press on its tummy the longer it holds the note. If you get more than one, they harmonize with each other in harmony mode. The adorable squeaky voices are cute to listen to. Even I couldn't stop playing with it! My favorite part is when it says "Song!" as you change to sing-a-song mode. The little Singamajig is just so upbeat, and its little accent is adorable! The shirt even comes off (each one has its own unique, colorful little shirt) and you can interchange the Singamajigs' shirts.

Singamajigs require 2 AAA batteries, which are included. They are meant for kids ages 3 and up, probably because of the eyes and nose having the potential to fall off. However, I felt safe letting my daughter, who is 23 months, play with hers.
