Reasons Behind the Enormous Success of Singapore

Singapore is an Island in South East Asia, situated just under Malaysia and whether you believe it or not, got its independence in 1965, with hardly any thing to its name. Today though, it has reserves of over US$170 billion. Having no resources to its name, Singapore has achieved this in the last forty years through following simple rules of life. Unity, and Discipline, and each Singaporean has maintained that in every aspect of life.

However, having said that, Singapore has been fortunate to have a leader who was able to implement all this for them. Famously known as LKY (Lee Kwan Yew), who was instrumental in Singapore Independence from Malaysia, also it's first Prime minister. During his tenure as a Prime Minister and then as a senior Prime Minister, he laid down his ideas and followed few simple rules which have brought about so much success for such a small city state.

The first reason has been its unity. Singapore caters to four different cultures, each very different in nature and attitude, Chinese, Malays, Indians and Others. However, united they have been at every front and at no time has any religious issues or cultural have abrupt that has been the cause of downfall for many countries. The reason could be the emphasis on education. Singapore spends heavily on providing free education to its citizens and that has come about in their acceptance of other cultures with open heart.

The Second reason in line is the discipline, which has been formulated in them from birth. At every aspect in society, Singaporeans are maneuvered so much that, they all think alike. Discipline allows them to stand in line, follow traffic rules and throwing litter in the dustbin. These simple things have made Singapore of what it is now, Clean, tidy and beautiful.

These two reasons have made the government life much easier as it now able to build an empire, of course because of the strong foundation. Lee Kwan Yew believes and has been often quoted saying that it is education and police that makes the country a successful. With its education, it can teach the people what is right or wrong, and with the police in place, it can catch those people who are trying to do the wrong. LKY is said to have fixed a huge amount of Singapore's initial budget in 1965 to be spent on education and on the development of police department.

Today, Singapore has the best education system in the world and Bill Clinton once said that we need to achieve the level of Singapore education system. It also has a very good Police department which is fully equipped and trained to handle any situation that comes up.

All said and done, Singapore has reached this position not just by luck but by sheer hard work and determination from each and every one of its citizens and it is our responsibility to give our credit to them for achieving so much in such a little time. Cheers!
