Only days after losing her unborn baby after contracting a viral infection, British singer Lily Allen was admitted to a London hospital suffering from a potentially fatal blood-poisoning condition. Doctors diagnosed her with Septicaemia, a bacterial blood condition, and have put her on a series of medications to stop the spread of the illness.

Allen was taken to the Hospital days after suffering a miscarriage, her second in three years. Since the tragic loss of her baby Allen has used Twitter to tell fans that she has been feeling sick for some time, both before and after the miscarriage. Shortly before announcing her miscarriage Allen tweeted, "I'm still very sick but the messages are helping me to be stronger. Thank you xx." and "Say a little prayer x"

She was nearly 7-months pregnant when she lost the child. The baby was reportedly a boy she was expected to give birth to in January.

If left untreated, septicaemia can develop into septic shock. A publicist for Lily Allen reported to the Daily Mail Allen was responding well to the medications she has received and expect her to make a full recovery. In a statement, the publicist said, "Lily thanks everyone for their messages of support and again asks that she and partner Sam Cooper be left alone whilst she recovers."

Sepsis is a serious infection usually caused by bacteria, which the person suffering from the illness can develop through various body parts, such as the lungs, intestines, urinary tract, or skin. After entering the body toxins cause the immune system to attack the body's own organs and tissues.

Sepsis can lead to serious complications that affect the kidneys, lungs, brain, and hearing. If left untreated the patient could die. If caught in time, and treated properly, the person suffering from Sepsis could recover fully without many lasting effects.

Lily Allen and her artist boyfriend Sam Cooper had announced the pregnancy in August, and through her Twitter account Allen had kept fans updated on the progress of her pregnancy. After losing the baby Allen tweeted, "Thank you for all your kind messages."Almost three years ago Allen was pregnant with boyfriend Ed Simons baby. Simons, a musician with the British group The Chemical Brothers, and Allen lost the baby around four months into the pregnancy.
