Last February's incident, according to People Magazine, happened when Brown hit Rihanna's head against the window, and then proceeded to punch her right eye. "He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand." (People Magazine)
When Rihanna called an assistant and asked her to call the police, Brown became enraged and threatened to kill her. He continued to beat and choke her until she nearly lost consciousness. At that time Brown was charged with two felonies.
Today, TMZ is showing a public video apology the Brown made for the singer Rihanna. According to the Los Angeles times Brown says that his apology was so long in coming because his lawyers had cautioned him from speaking out or making any public statements.
In the video, Brown laments the fact that he wishes he could "live those few moments again." He claims to be ashamed of his behavior, and has sought counseling with both his mother and minister.
He states that he was taught better than to treat women the way he treated Rihanna, but in the very next breath Brown claims that the reason he acted the way he did is because he was brought up in a home where domestic violence was prevalent. But, growing up in a home with domestic violence does not necessarily condemn one to repeat its vicious cycle, and is really no excuse for the beating which landed Rihanna at the hospital.
Brown does seem to realize that others, especially young men look up to him, even if he doesn't deserve the title of "role model," and he hopes that he can be a better example for them in the future than he has been in the past. Hopefully, Rihanna, will accept his apology, if it really is heart felt, and won't find it an excuse to resume a relationship with him. Unfortunately, many women who suffer from domestic violence attacks return to their attackers.
There are several places to view the apology video. But, the home source is TMZ.com and the video can be viewed at: http://www.tmz.com/2009/07/20/chris-brown-apologizes-for-beating/.
