77 Year Old Willie Nelson was Arrested in Texas for Posessing 6 Ounces of Pot

Country Music Icon Willie Nelson was arrested for and charged with Marijuana possession after Police boarded and searched Nelson's tour bus in Texas.

Police discovered a whopping six ounces of marijuana, which is known to cause violent and uncontrollable desires, on the part of the user, to consume large amounts of food and snacks.

Willie Nelson's bus had to pull into a standard, routine, checkpoint 85 miles east of El Paso in Sierra Blanca, Texas.

According to Hudspeth Country Sheriff Arvin West Willie Nelson told authorities that the marijuana was actually his.

No doubt the officers must have been worried that Nelson posed a severe danger to himself and others. A senior citizen under the influence of Marijuana is capable of just about anything including, but not limited to, writing another beloved song.

Bill Brooks, a Police Patrolman, added that the Hudspeth Country Sheriff was contacted and Willie Nelson was among the three suspects arrested. No doubt, such a high profile arrest would certainly make a name for the Sheriff's Department and the Sheriff himself, allowing the Sheriff to likely enter the 2012 Presidential campaign. At least that is what the Sheriff must have thought when he arrested the 77 year old musician.

It was lucky that Willie had $2,500 to bail himself out of jail and had minimal exposure to the small towns idea of a rehabilitation facility.

This is pure speculation on my part but if visions of the "Duke boys" and "Boss Hogg" just entered your mind then you're likely not alone.

Nevertheless, Willie Nelson could well get up to 180 days in Boss Hogg's, I mean Sheriff West's county jail.

A member of Willie Nelson's band, Mickey Raphael, told Rolling Stone magazine that after the arrest and release, Willie feels pretty good although he is about 6 ounces lighter.

Willie Nelson has been an advocate for decriminalization of Marijuana for a long time and the decriminalization movement is only in recent times picking up supporters en mas.

Simply put, this is a good example of a draconian law of a by-gone era. An era of governmental propaganda and fear mongering. Lets be honest now, nobody with an ounce of sense would be arresting senior citizens, or anyone else for that matter, for carrying a few ounces of plant material.

That's why he lives on Maui where it is far more permissible to have MJ for your own private use. A guy I went to high school takes care of his plants for him.
