Single Mother in Atlanta Attacked by a Rat Calls Local Morning Show
V103's Frank Ski & Wanda Urban Radio Show Rescues Single Mother and Son from Rabid Rat
The single mother had recently relocated to Atlanta in search of a better life for her and her 9-year-old son from St. Louis, Missouri, only to find herself struggling to make ends meets, living in dilapidated housing and no support system. Facing one of the toughest days of her life, as an angry rat stared her down in her bedroom and nearly made her and her son a hostage on their bed as it growled and stubbornly refused to run or even hide as she threw items at it. Instead, the rat, which she described as "having a tail as thick as a VHS cassette tape", crawled up onto her television and attempted to leap onto the single mother's bed as if to retaliate for her earlier failed assault. Frantic and shaken, with no friends or family, the single mother reached for the phone and called up the Frank Ski & Wanda Morning Show and told of her terrifying situation. She just needed to vent, but her reaching out to the radio station on that particular day was the beginning of a new lease in her life.
Frank Ski and Wanda took the call as they normally would, "Thank you for calling the Frank Ski and Wanda Morning Show. Who's this?" The frantic caller, with tears in her voice began to speak. A huge rat was in her bedroom as she and her son were sleeping and it was ready to attack. She's scared, she has no friends and family and she's just calling in to vent - that's it. Her story - so amazing because of her courage in spite of her circumstances and the terror of it all pulled at the heart strings of not only Frank Ski and Wanda but other callers. This young woman who had no friends or family was suddenly thrust into the kindest and most supportive human family that exists as the lines began to light up in response to her story.
Not only did callers volunteer their time, hearts and resources, but Frank Ski volunteered to come to her aid at that moment and get that monstrous rat out of her bedroom. He placed her on hold to get her information and called a pest control company to assist with the rodent. Not only that, but he paid her gas bill, fixed her washer and dryer so she's able to do laundry and other callers helped too. One caller offered to buy groceries while another offered to donate her second car she doesn't drive. Yet another caller offered to give her a complimentary hairstyle at his family's hair salon. The young mother was being showered with love and support far beyond what she expected. She just wanted a friend to vent too and instead she got her most pressing prayers answered! To everyone's surprise, the love and support didn't stop there.
A corporate sponsor and supporter of the station felt compelled by this determined young mother's spirit - Nalley's Honda Dealership, full of strong salesmen and women, with tears in their hearts and filing their eyes banded together and purchased a used car on the lot complete with new tires, a complete inspection with necessary maintenance performed and over $500 in cash. They delivered it to the young single mother live on the radio station. Overwhelmed with emotion, the single mother thanked everyone live on the radio show the following morning with uncontrolled emotion.
When her darkness seemed to be never-ending, there appeared the light of a new day and it shined brighter than any day before. Welcome to Atlanta!

A happy story indeed!
It's nice to hear something positive for a change. People helping or being helped instead of causing or receiving pain. I'm happy for her. Great article!!!!
That was such a sweet story. You see, when the world looks dark and gray, stories like this show us that there is some good in the world.
