I have raised a five year old daughter by myself before getting married. Believe me, it was very tough. But it's alot easier since I have found a partner to share my life with and now I get help from him. For me, it was especially hard trying to date someone just for the simple fact that I had a little girl. So many people in the world can't be trusted these days, including family, so it's alot harder trying to find a man that you can trust enough to bring into a little girl's life and not cause her heartbreak. Even so, my daughter thrives for attention from a male since her father was never around, this made me be even more careful because she attaches herself to people so quickly.
Besides that, when you have a child that is used to getting all of your attention, it's hard finding someone who can get used to the idea of having to "share" you. This usually eliminates alot of jealous men or women who want someone all to their self, because you have a child who is begging for your attention at the same time. No one wants to be in competition with someone else's child. This isn't a particular good place to be.
The thing I found the most helpful when I was trying to date someone, was I made sure that they too had a child of their own. This made things much easier since they already knew the commitment I had to my child came first. It was also easier when I couldn't find a babysitter, because we would just make it a family event and bring all our children on the date. So if you're having a hard time getting and keeping a date, maybe this will help you out as well. At least then you know for a fact that you have something in common.
