When it comes to romance and dating, many singles seem to forget to do one thing. Have fun! As far as many frustrated single people are concerned, the dating scene is about as fun as a trip to the dentist or preparing your taxes.
At some point in their lives, many singles were probably excited about dating and romance. It was an adventure they couldn't wait to embark upon.
Naturally, as time goes on people will have to face the inevitable pain, loss, and rejection that accompanies romance. However, it is that spirit of looking at dating as a fun adventure that many singles need to get back again.
There are enough dating horror stories and examples of people who don't exactly live by the Golden Rule to fill an entire library. Many, many single people have worn their hearts on their sleeve and been burned just enough times that they decide it is time to put the walls up.
They believe this will provide the protection they need to prevent them from being hurt or slighted again. The barrier they create becomes their shield.
The truth is the walls they put up only hurt themselves. Sure, they keep the bad apples at a distance. However, what many singles don't realize is that they're keeping the good prospects at bay as well.
Many singles also do not realize how obvious their bitterness is to the rest of the world. They are sending out signals that tell everyone to stay away, and most of them probably don't even realize it.
All this serves to do is keep away the romance they would like to attract. Those old battle scars you wear may be the very thing standing in the way of you and romantic success.
The best remedy for single people is to let their guard down and make dating fun again. The process isn't meant to evoke the same dread as having a root canal done. It's supposed to be fun!
An interesting thing happens when people lighten up about romance: They attract more people.
The reason for that is because when singles aren't wearing a big neon sign that reads, "I'm bitter," they can relax and be themselves. Also, it is harder to resist someone who is open and upbeat.
It's possible to learn from the past without letting old ghosts haunt you forever. Have fun with this roller coaster called romance, and see how much better the world looks to you!
