Singles Guide to Valentine's Day

Diana Eid
Sometimes Valentine's Day can be depressing if you are single, but it doesn't have to be. If you are single on Valentine's Day, the easiest thing to do is hang out with your other single friends. There are many activities you can do with friends. Plan a nice dinner out. Make reservations, get dressed up and head to the restaurant of your choice to enjoy food and drinks.

You can also choose to see a movie. Check your local movie listings for anything that may be playing in your area. You could even make it an all day event by first going to dinner with your friends and then seeing a movie. By the time you know it, the night will almost be over and you'll have had a great time on Valentine's Day.

If you belong to an online group such as meetup.com, see if there are any singles activities going on in your area. Many times local groups get together so that people in the group have an option on what they'd like to do.

If you'd rather be by yourself on Valentine's Day, that's okay too. Look through recipe books or check online for a nice dinner you can make for yourself. Follow that up with a good book or movie and you're all set for the night.

Remember, Valentine's Day can also be looked at as a commercial holiday. Think of it as a way for companies to make money selling candy and flowers. Look at all the money you are saving by not falling into the hype.

If you can't stand the sight of couples being googly-eyed over each other, make sure you avoid potential areas they may be in. Hang out in a coffee shop, go to the bookstore, or even stay at home.

Lastly, Valentine's Day is only one day long. Remember that you will survive that day. After it's over, everyone and everything goes back to normal and it's all forgotten about until next year. By then you may not be single on Valentine's Day anymore.
