Sink Daisy Doesn't Live Up to Its Claims

A Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
I love my husband dearly, but he's like a bull in a china shop when it comes to working in the kitchen. He leaves pots and pans strewn everywhere and throws virtually anything and everything into the kitchen sink. Unfortunately, that often leads to real problems for me, because I have to correct his mistakes.

I am a real stickler about leaving the stoppers in the sink because of my husband's careless activities. He, on the other hand, will pull them out without a second thought. Because of that, I had to come up with a way to fool him into helping cure the drain clog issue.

The answer seemed to come to me one day on a trip to Dollar Tree. I saw a product called the Sink Daisy. It is called that, because the white rubber stopper kind of looks like a flower.

A nice side benefit of the Sink Daisy is that it is scented to help keep the drain smelling fresh. The one I bought smelled liked oranges.

Sink Daisy came one to a package. It retailed for $1 at Dollar Trees across the nation. That seemed like it could be a real bargain if it worked.

The purpose of the Sink Daisy is to fit into the drain to catch any food, paper, or other particles that aren't supposed to go down the sink. But does it work? Let's take a look and see.

Sink Daisy promises to fit over the top of a garbage disposal as well. It does so it gets 5 out of 5 stars for that claim.

Next, it promises to keep utensils from sliding into the disposal. Once again, it keeps its promise; earning it another 5 out of 5 stars.

It also says you can use it with or without another sink strainer. I found that not to be the case, at least with my sink type. Therefore, it gets 0 stars on this claim.

Next, it promises to keep the sink looking pretty. It's a real toss up on that claim. Unfortunately, Sink Daisy stains quite easily, taking on the color or residue. Mine turned orange from tomato sauce. The resulting effect is ugly. Therefore, it only gets 2 out of 5 stars for this one.

Finally, Sink Daisy promises to keep the sink smelling clean. We have another toss up here. When you first put it in, Sink Daisy smells great. However, after a few rinses in the sink, it loses its scent. Therefore, it only gets only 2 out of 5 stars for this claim.

That means that Sink Daisy earns just 14 out of a possible 25 stars. That works out to just 2.4 stars. That's not so good in the scheme of things.

While it is true that Sink Daisy doesn't cost much, it also doesn't hold up long enough to get your money back. I consider this product a real bust.

Sink Daisy is made in China. It is distributed by Greenbrier International of Chesapeake, Virginia.
