Siobhan Magnus Sings "Across the Universe" on American Idol

Siobhan Magnus performed "Across the Universe" on the April 6^thAmerican Idol show. The April 6^thAmerican Idol show featured songs from the British Invasion. Performers selected songs from singer/songwriters Paul McCartney and John Lennon specifically, instead of just songs from the Beatles.

Siobhan Magnus has made a name for herself with her end-of-performance scream. The first time she performed this scream in Aretha Franklin's Think was amazing. Her high notes since then have been hit or miss. They all sound good but none has been as good as her first. On April 6^th, Siobhan did not use her signature scream.

Siobhan's goal for "Across the Universe" was to show a different side of her voice. She said the song holds a mood that is beautiful and raw.

Siobhan sang while sitting on a stool. She never touched the microphone but instead used her hands to express her song. Her outfit was unique blend of a white ruffled dress with a vest. Siobhan opted for glitter eye shadow that rounded out the mood for "Across the Universe."

Siobhan sang with just a piano accompaniment. She showed tremendous voice control but was still able to show off her amazing range with falsettos.

Randy Jackson: Said that Siobhan screams "artist" and he loves that she is a true artist from her singing to her clothes. He liked the tender side of the performance but thought it was just a little sleepy.

Ellen DeGeneres: Ellen said that Siobhan marches to the beat of her own drum. She said that the performance was special and that the artist is talented. She loved the fact that the song was different and beautiful.

Kara DioGuardi: Said that Siobhan's performance showed control but it was restrained and very polite. She didn't think that this song would be one that she would hear on the radio but she still connected to it.

Simon Cowell: Simon asked Siobhan, "What did you connect personally with that song?" Siobhan teared up as she gave him answer: She won't change because her life is crazy. She thought about her baby sisters and everything she is doing on American Idol.

Simon concluded that Siobhan's performance was much better than last week and that she's unpredictable. Simon likes that she confuses them.

Kim Keason (Me): Siobhan's performance may have been sleepy but if you are in the mood for an emotional ballad then this one fits the bill. She showed awesome control with her voice and sang the song with feeling.

Siobhan's performance of "Across the Universe" is a perfect ballad if you are in the right mood. She showed that she still has a huge vocal range without having to gear up for it.
