Sioux City Food Pantry Looking for Local Sponsors

SIOUX CITY, IA --- Like many local churches, Siouxland First Wiccan Congregation, operates a food pantry to help families in need. Like many federally recognized charities, this mall, but active church requires help from local sponsors.

Siouxland First Wiccan Congregation's food pantry is looking for local sponsors from private persons and local businesses. Currently, the food pantry, staffed entirely by volunteers, is helping over 30 families with groceries, over the counter medicines, and other services. But with a steadily growing client base, the food pantry's resources are stretched to the limits.

"We provide clients with food, hygiene items, diapers, and over the counter medications," Sister Phoenix, SFWC Board president said. "In extreme cases, we have also given gift cards for gas money, milk for children, and work attire."

She added that such cases are evaluated on a case by case basis.

To receive benefits, clients need to call Sister Phoenix at 712 333-0438 to schedule an appointment. Clients need to complete an application, and furnish social security cards and photo Ids for each member in the household. They do not need to furnish proof of income, Sister Phoenix said.

"If they're struggling enough to call the food pantry," she said. "They need the food."

She added that most callers are embarrassed to call a food pantry to begin with.

Siouxland First Wiccan Congregation is a federally recognized charity under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations made to the church are tax deductible.
