On attending a wine tasting reception recently I was introduced to the finer ways of drinking my wine. Apparently, there is more to drinking wine than just drinking it! Before you even take a sip you must (according to those who know best) smell the wine first; swirl it around in your glass violently; smell it again; swirl it again and watch out to see if your wine has legs; eventually, take a sip and spit it out.
Well, I don't know about you but by the time I had finished this ritual I no longer felt like a glass of wine. Luckily, I was not the only person performing the grand ritual otherwise I would have felt like a right idiot. Now, don't get me wrong I do know about wines but I think that the best part of a a good wine is DRINKING IT.
So, you may keep your SIT N SPIT ritual for the more discerning palate and just let me get on with enjoying my glass of Chateau neuf de pape......
