Give me a sword
And nothing more;
A blade is all I need!
(Except for a horse
To ride, of course
A knight must have his steed)
But then, perchance,
I'll need a lance
For a sword is so short-range
And armor, I guess,
For common dress
In battle would be strange
And then, I'll yield,
I'd need a shield
To fend off vicious blows
'Tis not too much
To want a touch
Of color, heaven knows
So I must have some pennants
And a battle flag or two
A drape for my steed
And then I'll need
Plumes for my helmet, too
And then, forsooth
An able youth
To act as groom and lackey
For to care for all these things myself
Doth seem most frightful tacky!

Post a CommentVery clever. I think I met that knight in one of my fables. By the way, I' having to discover your latest stuff on my own. Apparently AC can't be bothered.
Bat, I'm baffled, because I remember how bemused I was as I read this, and I "remember" writing some (undoubtedly clever) comment. Obviously I wrote it in my head w/ disappearing ink! Sorry. This is soooooo funny and well-written! Makes me picture the SCA
events our son Aaron loves so much, w/ all the pomp & pagentry & humorous self-mockery. BTW, Morag should print his comment as a funny little poem for AC! Totally appropriate title, Ms Canary. Enjoyed this a lot! ; )
Ni!!!!!
Hahaha! I love this, Bat. And Morag's addition is great...
What fun!
Cool poem...thanks!
