Sirius and XM Music Channel Comparison

Evan Nash
You have firmly decided that you want to get into the satellite radio world and leave behind the analog radio that has you so firmly entrenched in yesteryear. You want to leave behind the "same ole, same ole" that seems to be on every single radio channel regardless of the place that you happen to be at the moment. With satellite radio you can do this, but you don't want to get stuck with XM Radio when you really want Sirius, or vice versa, you want to have what speaks to you.

So now you are looking at getting this satellite radio because you are tired of the same songs at the same time every day, but who is better for musical tastes, XM or Sirius? Here is a little bit about the different genres and channels available for varying musical tastes:

> Sirius offers 12 different channels under the "Pop" genre while XM Radio lists their pop channels under the "Hits" title which contains 8 channels. Both offer great channels based on decade, current hits, international hits, or easy listening type hits.

> XM Radio lists 14 channels under the "Rock" genre with the differences between channels basically just being how hard the rock is or the generation it generated from. Sirius lists 22 channels under the same genre with different channels for different styles or time periods, but they also offer a "Rolling Stones Channel" and a "Who" channel.

> Under the "R&B and Rap" for Sirius there are 6 different channels listed while the XM Radio genre "R&B and Urban" has 7 channels listed. There is little differentiation on the surface between the channels, but there has to be something different, right?

> XM Radio clocks in with 7 channels and Sirius has 5 channels when it comes to the "Country" genre that continues to remain popular in spite of the music's general struggle (kidding of course).

> In all, XM Radio offers 13 different genres of music while Sirius lists 10 as both have classical, international, jazz, and so forth to add on to what is above. Both also have award-winning children's channels, mainly the award-winning Disney channel for both.

Music, as crazy as it sounds, probably shouldn't be the deciding factor in your satellite radio choice as you have so many options for music right now. Plug in your MP3 player, listen to real stations, or get HD radio. The options are limitless!
