Meri was fired from the mental health field where she worked after the show, Sister Wives, aired. She said that her employer was aware of her polygamist lifestyle before the show, but after it became public she was let go. We don't know whether it was done legally or not, but it is understandable that they don't want to continue to employ a criminal.
The Brown family, Kody, Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn are currently being investigated by authorities in Utah for felony bigamy because the polygamist lifestyle is illegal in all 50 states. Even if the multiple marriages are not real, it is still illegal to live as if you are married to someone if you are already married to someone else.
The TLC show has attempted to glamorize polygamy and make it look desirable, but as viewers have seen it leaves a lot to be desired. Each wife only gets her husband for one week out of the month and the kids don't see him very much at all considering he has 16 of them.
In addition to Meri losing her job, Kody Brown, the husband of the four wives has said that he has also suffered financially because of the show. He is in advertising and he has lost accounts because his lifestyle was exposed. The Brown family felt that it was necessary to do the show to let everyone know about their lifestyle.
The family does seem to support themselves and not depend on social welfare programs. They live in a large house that is divided into four apartments. Kody Brown rents an additional home nearby for Robyn and her three kids.
Robyn Sullivan, Kody Brown's 4th wife, and a recent addition to the family was previously married and has three children with her ex-husband, David Preston Jessop. Jessop is not happy that his children's private lives are being exposed on television. Hopefully, he will take that up in family court.
The state of Utah is currently investigating the family for felony bigamy. There appears to be plenty of evidence with all of the footage that is shown of the family on television and the internet. The family could lose more than jobs and clients, Kody Brown could lose his freedom if prosecutors decide to press charges against the self admitted polygamist. Kody Brown could face up to five years in jail.

Post a CommentI feel so sorry for Meri, the first wife. Kody treats her badly by denying her the respect of "First Wife" saying she should have the smallest house because she only has the one child and seems to throw it into her face. The title "First" reveals she should be giver respect, and all or most of the celebrations should center around her home, not The fourth selfish wife, who has admitted she only needs him for the money, and the other wives to take care of her kids! Kody should know that, but he's selfish and conceded. I hope Meri takes her kid and leaves him for not respecting her! I also hope the others leave him too. HE'S ONLY INTEREST IS PLEASURING HIMSELF AND HAVING AS MANY KIDS AS HE CAN. Why would he do that and can't pay enough attention to the ones he has? If he gets another wife, I wish him luck and everything that goes along with the choice.
how much does the family get paid to be on tv
Sunshine, I think they pretend like their financial situation is stronger than it really is. In 2005 Kody and Meri filed bankruptcy.
I am a firm believer of live and let live however I must wonder about health insurance? Does Kody have a "family" plan and if so how would that cover the 3 add'l wives? As long as they don't rely on public support they should be left alone. They seem like truly likeable, lovely people and caring parents, living their own private lives - what more could you ask?
Good point Judy, but I don't know if it will matter. Meri may or may not get charges pressed against her. In Utah it does not matter if the marriage is legal. If you live with someone as if you are married, it is illegal.
Actually Meri is the ONLY legal wife, so she is not a criminal at all. If it comes to divorce, the courts will only see Meri as legal, but all the children as his. so sad.
This is Kody's justification for cheating in which he thinks is legal. The whole family is stupid to think something would have not come of this. They should pay the price
