Sister Wives, Kody Brown's First Wife Meri Brown

TLC's 'Sister Wives', Kody Brown's first wife Meri Brown, married Kody when she was just nineteen years old, twenty years ago in 1990. Meri is one of the four wives of Kody Brown. She admits that she is jealous of Kody's fourth and youngest wife, Robyn Sullivan Brown.

Meri has only been able to give Kody one child, daughter Mariah, 15. Meri says that she is happy being in a polygamist marriage. She was not raised in a polygamist family, but grew up around polygamy so it was no surprise to her that Kody wanted to take on more wives. It also makes her feel better that Kody is able to have additional children with the other wives that he cannot have with her. Kody has offered to pay for invitro fertilization for Meri, but she did not think that was natural and did not want to do it, even though Kody keeps pressuring her for more children, knowing that she cannot have them.

Because Meri is the first wife, she should command more respect than the other wives and more decision making privileges, but since the first three wives all met Kody within 6 months of each other and married within four years of each other, they all get along well and share decisions. They have grown up together and raised all of their children together as siblings. That is why Meri is having such a difficult time adjusting to the addition to Robyn, who is joining the large polygamist family with three children of her own.

Meri introduced Kody to Robyn and allegedly was the one that suggested Robyn be added to the family. May be she is still feeling guilty that she can't have more children for Kody.

Meri lives in her own separate apartment with her daughter, that is one third of a large (three apartment) home. She currently shares her bedroom with her husband, Kody, every fourth night.

Meri did work outside the home until their hit reality television show aired. She was ten fired from her job. Possibly because polygamy is illegal in all 50 states. She claimed that her bosses knew that she was a polygamist before the show aired. She now misses her job in health care. She is currently studying to be a psychologist. May be when she is finished with her degree she will be able to analyze herself.

It is my prediction that Meri will be the first wife to divorce Kody Brown of Sister Wives.
