'Sit-A-Spell' Coffee Shop is Coming to Harlem, Georgia
Can a Coffee Shop Thrive in Small Town America?
Harlem, GA 30814
United States of America
The owner, Jennifer, says she hopes to have a large selection of books for visitors to read while enjoying the atmosphere the store will provide. She stated that she was working with an acoustic guitar player to come and perform a couple of times a week. She said that she wants to feature artwork from local community artists.
Harlem is an old fashioned town. Located between Augusta, GA and Thomson, GA, it has a population of approximately 1900 people, one stop light, and boasts its annual Hardy Festival celebrated every October.
Many in Harlem are excited about the idea of such an establishment. They feel that Sit-A-Spell will fill a long missing niche in the community.
Krystin Pavillard, a fifteen years old student of Harlem High School, said, "I can't wait for that place to open! It will be a great hang out spot for me and my friends."
Others are less convinced that the store will be able to attract enough business.
Collin Harris, a seventeen year old senior, said, "I like the idea of a coffee house, but I don't know if it will be able to get the older people interested. I think it will attract a lot of teenagers. But I don't know if that will be enough money to make it here. This is Harlem, there's nothing here. It may be too progressive for this area."
The owner stated she wanted to get people excited about Sit-A-Spell. She wants to drawn in everyone. She is contemplating offering poetry sessions, book club meetings, and an outdoor serenity section.
Her fiery excitement is contagious! She sees the store could be a great play to display local artists' works to the community. "Giving back" and expanding Harlem's local talent is one of her goals, she glows when she explains her desire to bring more to the community she has embraced.
She would like to incorporate the town's "story", created by the patrons, by setting up a large book for them to write one word in at each visit. At the end of a set time, a month or six weeks, she will copy the script and type out the story for all to enjoy. Keeping the stories together in a binder on display, the words will serve to tell the tale created by those who enjoyed the exercise.
"I want to bring something new and exciting to Harlem," Jennifer stated, "I think that this place can be a calming, pleasant place for people to gather, drink a cup of wonderful coffee, and relax. I really hope that people will like it."

Post a CommentThanks, Charlotte! A game area is a great idea! She has been taking each step slowly, making certain she is doing the right thing.
I am truly excited about this! I think it will be pretty great. *fingers crossed*
She is working on a couple of programs that will benefit the city as well, she wants to be active in the community and wants everyone who comes to be comfortable.
Her aim is to have an establishment that people can't wait to come back to!
