Six Awesome Things to Do when the Power is Out!

That's right, we're nearing the end of summer, where the cold fronts are energetically trying to push themselves in to our world and what happens when cold air meets hot air? Spontaneous Combustion, that's right, Thunder and Lightening Storms, High Winds and the power goes out. What will we do?

Here is Six awesome things to do when the power is out!

# 1 ~ Play a Board Game by Candle light!

Whether you are a single couple or married with children, you are sure to have a good time playing your favorite board game by candle light! Pop some popcorn (if you have a gas stove, see # 6), mix up some ice tea and see who can win monopoly!

# 2 ~ Read by Candlelight

Take the time to read that book that's been sitting on the shelf for months! Read books to your children or flip through a magazine with your spouse.

# 3 ~ Craft

If you are a crafter who doesn't require a lot of light for your craft, get some work done! If not, Cut and paste or color with the kids.

# 4 ~ Call a Friend

Even though the power's out, the phone still works! Take this time to call a friend or family member you haven't spoken to in a while!

# 5 ~ Make something fun to eat

This one is especially good if you have kids. For those of you lucky enough to have a gas stove, bake cookies, make a pie or some other delectable treat. If you don't have a gas stove, you can make no bake cookies or jello, fruit salad or anything else that doesn't require cooking.

# 6 ~ TALK

Most families today, don't spend enough time talking. When they actually do have free time, they are too busy playing video games, watching TV, surfing the internet, etc. Take this opportunity to actually talk to each other. Talk about what's going on in your daily lives, what stresses you, plan your next vacation or family activity.

Most importantly, take the time to spend it together, no matter what you do! The power going out is a blessing in disguise, instead of thinking of it as a hassle that messes up your daily life, think of it as giving you the time to stop and enjoy life for a few minutes (or hours, depending on how quickly your power company fixes it).
