Six Best '80s Movies Starring Andrew McCarthy

In the 1980's there was a group of young actors that played in many movies, together and separate. They became known as the "Brat Pack." This group consisted of Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, and, of course, Andrew McCarthy. Some of these actors went on to make big names for themselves, some barely made names for themselves, but they are all still in the acting world. Andrew McCarthy got started in movies in the 80's. He was a part of many memorable films form that decade.

In 1985 one of the best "brat pack" movies with Andrew McCarthy in it came out. This movie was "St. Elmo's Fire." It was a story about a group of friends all coming of age after finishing college. They went in and out of love, sometimes with each other, learned about life and often lost their way on the path of life. In the end they all find their reason to be. This one also starred Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Mare Winningham, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.

1986's "Pretty In Pink" showed what it was like for a girl on the poor side of town to fall for a guy on the rich side of town. It starred Molly Ringwald as Andie, a poor girl that falls for McCarthy's character Blane. Andie best friend "Duckie" is played by Jon Cryer and is one of the most memorable characters from this movie. Also stars James Spader, Harry Dean Stanton and Annie Potts.

In 1987 a "Mannequin" came to live. That mannequin was Kim Catrall, and she was only seen alive by McCarthy's character. A cute movie that explores love and secrets. It also star James Spader alongside McCarthy, once again. This movie made the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," by Starship, an unforgettable song in movies in the 80's.

"Less Than Zero" introduced the big drug issues that were abundant in the 80's. In 1987 McCarthy starred alongside Jamie Gertz and Robert Downey, Jr. in this intervention flick. Gertz plays McCarthy's ex-girlfriend who requests his return home from college to get his buddy out of the world of drugs. It is an intense flick.

1988's "Fresh Horses" brings McCarthy back with Molly Ringwald again in a movie about stolen hearts and love. This movie is a reminder that you can not judge a book by it's cover, and you can not always trust what people tell you is truth. This classic tale of young love also stars Ben Stiller.

By far the funniest movie on this list is 1989's "Weekend At Bernie's." Andrew McCarthy plays an employee who's boss has been murdered. He and a co-worker try to keep up a charade that the boss is alive by dragging his dead body around with them.
