When we think about Bordeaux wines, we usually picture a wine with a deep red color. It is unsurprising because most wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France is red. However, the area is also known for white and rose wines. Sometimes referred to as claret, Bordeaux red wines vary hugely in terms of quality as well as price. Bordeaux is almost always a blend of several grapes. Here are five Bordeax wines to try.

Bordeaux wines are usually less expensive to sample when you buy them while travelling in France. However, if you cannot make it to France, many of the wines below are available through American importers. Bordeaux is one of the most popular wine varieties to be imported into the United States.

Avery's Côtes de Castillon 2006 is rich and dark with hints of cherry and plum. It goes well with savory dishes such as grilled chicken and pasta. You can find Avery's Côtes de Castillon 2006 for between $15-20.
