Six First Date Ideas Other Than Dinner and a Movie

Karl Withakay
Think about all the first dates you've been on. How many of them were dinner and a movie? Not that there is anything wrong with that but how much did you spend? Dinner likely ran you at least $40.00 including a 15% tip. You likely spent at least $30.00 on the movie, two pop corns, two large drinks, etc. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not sink $70.00 to $100.00 on a date with a woman that I don't really know all that well yet. There are a few fun things you can do for dates that don't involve dinner at a restaurant and a movie. Here are some ideas.

Bowling

Bowling is fun. It's competitive and a good workout. Not only that, you can see how competitive she is. If she starts flipping out and swearing when things don't go her way, it's better to find that out before things get too serious. After it's done, you're libel to share a few laughs at least and it's a lot cheaper than $70.00.

A Dog Park

If you have a pet, take her and Fido to the dog park. If she has a dog, that's even better. Even if she doesn't have a pet, who doesn't love the sight of dogs running around and playing.

A Picnic

Yeah, I know that this involves a meal that could be dinner but I'm serious. A nice sunny day, a big bowl of macaroni salad, a loaf of bread and some homemade chicken salad along with a blanket and a jug of lemonade is a economical alternative to the dinner and a movie date. There is a certain amount of romance in a picnic as well.

Bike Riding

Think of it. You can rent a couple of mountain bikes, and you and your date can ride along some tree lined trails and stop by some of the local cafes. That's a date that will set you apart from every date that she's ever been on with anyone else. It's fun too.

A Bus Tour

I know, public transportation isn't your idea of a decent first date. But a bus tour might be fun. If you live within two hundred miles from a fun area, look for a bus tour going there. They're not all that expensive either. If you live in the Catskill Mountains of upstate, New York, you can likely find one to New York City or Atlantic City. The chances are, you can find a bus tour company near you. Look into it.

Sunday Brunch

Brunch is an excellent idea for a date with someone you don't know all that well. It's fun, it's casual, and it's during the day so there isn't really any post date hook up pressure. Not only that, it's cheap. You can get a decent meal for brunch for a nice price.

There you have it. Some unique and different things you can do for a first date. These things will set you apart from other guys in a good way. So go ahead, ask that new lady at work out for a Saturday afternoon pick nick. Good luck to you and have fun.
