Six Flags in Gurnee Announces Riptide Bay Water Park Expansion

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois closes for the 2010 season at the conclusion of Fright Fest on Halloween, October 31, 2010 but the family friendly amusement park is already looking forward to 2011 and the addition of a new water park. Hurricane Harbor, the water park at Six Flags, s being expanded with a new three acre addition called Riptide Bay. Six Flags in Gurnee is a popular attraction located between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Construction on Riptide Bay begins in the fall of 2010 and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2011. Riptide Bay features a double-sided Surf-Rider, high-speed water slides, Caribbean-inspired activity pool, luxury cabanas and more.

Riptide Bay will boast more slides and attractions than any other water park in Illinois, according to information from Six Flags. The water park will feature the only place to surf on Lake Michigan. Surf Rider, the new double-sided surf simulator, will rush out 24,000 gallons of water a minute to send out eight foot waves, just like ocean waves.

A Caribbean-inspired activity pool will offer lounging areas and cabanas, great features for parents to relax in while watching the kids play in the water. The pool will also have high-speed water slides for the family to enjoy.

Six Flags Great America is a family friendly destination featuring 14 roller coasters that offers family entertainment from spring through fall. The water park is a terrific place for the family to cool off during the hot summer months.

Six Flags offers a full day of entertainment for families with rides rated from appropriate for small children to the more terrifying rides for teens and adults only. The rating system helps parents determine which rides are most appropriate for the kids.

The park offers a variety of food and beverages, although the refreshments at the park can be rather expensive. There are also hotels in the near vicinity. The nearest hotels are located on Grand Avenue, across the road from Six Flags.
