Six Flags: On the Verge of Bankruptcy?

Could Six Flags Be the Next Business to Go Under Due to the Sagging Economy?

Six Flags Inc has incurred piles of debt running their 20 amusement parks in North America and expanding overseas. Bills are coming due and in order to stay afloat, layoffs and sell offs over the past several years have taken place. With American's already tight pocket books and families spending less on entertainment, the projected summer-season attendance could spell disaster for Six Flags.

Fun For the Family, But Too Darn Expensive

Before the economy's downward spiral, Six Flags has always been an expensive trip for entertaining the family. With parking, admission, drinks and food being so expensive, families have found it hard to visit the legendary amusement park as it is. In 2006 when we visited the park we paid 15.00 for parking (which was closer to other local attractions than the park it's self) It cost 85.00 for two parents and a 2 year old, and 40.00 for a meal of burgers and fries, plus more money for drinks the rest of the day. The next trip to Six Flags we took we were offered a drink cup for $12.00 that could be refilled all day for $1 a refill. So it cost about $20 for drinks that day. The next time we visited, it was $13 for the cup. Prices just seem to keep going up and I am guessing with these steep increases that the attendance continues to go down. Six Flags has been offering several different discounts for visitors like 3 month season passes and such, but even if you save there you still have to pay parking every time you go. You can take your lunch if you want to try to save, but it's a lot of hassle. I think if they offered free parking they might find in increase in attendance, or if they went half price on drinks and food. Better entertainment and concerts could also help.

Of course my most recent complaint is while waiting in line for more than an hour and 45 minutes I seen a sign saying that if you have a Fast Pass you can go to the front of the line-I think other park visitors felt the same way I did. We all paid a lot of money to get in here and ride these rides, so now, if you pay even more you can go to the front fo the line!! It is rather insulting.

Good luck Six Flags-hopefully we'll see you next year!

Great info. I do love amusement parks and I also didn't think it was fair for people to pay more to get to the front of the line. We should ALL have to wait our turn! Good idea about free parking, or at least cheaper parking. They could probably draw a bigger crowd, indeed, with lower parking rates!
