Six "Glee" Character Qualities I'd like My Kids to Have

Every "Glee" Character Has at Least One Redeeming Quality

Candice Cain
I admit it: I am a "Gleek". The minute the musical comedy series played its first episode on Fox, I was hooked. I have been involved in musical theatre pretty much all of my life. My twins (a boy and a girl), who will be three next month, already sing and dance simply because that is what I do to entertain them. They love watching live musical shows and prefer listening to music over watching television.

The last time I watched "Glee", I started thinking about the different characters. Each and every character is over the top. however, each and every character has at least one redeeming quality. Here are six "Glee" characters and their qualities, which I wouldn't mind if my twins developed later in life.

Will Schuester - Patience
While Will Schuester is a great Spanish teacher and an awesome Glee Club leader, you've got to admit that he has an incredibly amount of patience. First, teaching teenagers a different language takes the patience of a saint. Secondly, getting a group of teenagers from different crows to get along as well as perform well together is next to impossible. Teaching choreography, dealing with teen attitudes, keeping spirits up all takes a ton of patience.

Sue Sylvester - Determination
To say that Sue Sylvester is determined is like saying liquid nitrogen is cold. Sue has a determination to succeed and the drive to achieve it. Granted, I don't want my children to be as nasty as Sue, but even one iota of her determination would be wonderful. I want my kids to feel as though - and believe - they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Rachel Berry - Confidence
There is no denying that Rachel Berry, the leading lady of the Glee Club, has confidence. Yes, she is utterly obnoxious with her confidence, throwing her talent in the faces of everyone in close proximity. I would like my children to be confident in every aspect of their life, not just their talents, yet humble enough to accept and appreciate all praise. I would never want them to boast or brag, the way that Rachel does. That's just annoying.

Artie Abrams - Loyalty
Artie is loyal. Even though Puck threw him in the dumpster, used him as a "cripple" for community service and treated him like crap in general, Artie saw the good in Puck and stayed loyal to him. When he found out that Tina was faking her stutter, he broke up with her, but still remained friends with her. He could have walked away from Glee Club with the rest of the football team, but he remained loyal to Mr. Schu and the rest of "Glee". I hope my kids have strong sense of loyalty, too.

Finn Hudson - Athleticism
Finn is quite athletic, playing both football and basketball. Sports have always been important to me and my family, so I hope that my kids participate in at least one sport. Furthermore, Finn is a good athlete, which could point the way to scholarships. (Perhaps we will hear about them when we find out Finn is going to graduate...) Not only do I hope my kids are athletes, I hope that they are good athletes, which could get them college offers.

Lauren Zizes - Pride
Until she sang her horribly disappointing rendition of "I Know What Boys Like", Lauren Zizes was rapidly becoming my favoite "Glee" character. After all, she is a tomboy that really reminds me a lot off myself in high school. There is no doubt that Lauren Zizes is proud of herself. She is proud of every facet, and she doesn't care what others think of those facets. She is proud that she is a big girl. She is proud that she is the state champion wrestler. She is proud that Puck is interested in her. She is proud of her strength. While I don't necessarily want my kids to show off and brag, I do want them to be proud of themselves in every way.

As I said before, my children aren't even three yet. They have plenty of time to develop these traits, and I certainly have plenty of time to cultivate them.
