How do you do this? How is it possible to make more friends or meet like minded people without feeling awkward. If you are going to walk up to someone out of the blue, be prepared for negative remarks, although you might get some interesting conversations going. Here, I'd outline some ways by which you can get to know more people without having to lose it.
Arrange for a party. This party should be special. Ask your friends to bring in friends outside your circle. In such a way, you will at least meet 5-10 different people. This number is to say the least.
Stretch your imagination. What is it that you love doing? What do you appreciate the most or are you trying to pick up something? Wine tasting session will be a good venue for the enthusiasts where you could meet like minded people and share your views. You never know- you may even get beyond the wine topic to some interesting venues.
Visit an art exhibition, even if you are only able to say "wow" and nothing else. You could meet up some real enthusiasts and pick up some interest in the subject. Artists can be of two types, from my experience, They could get really irritated if they find out you are not "into" their scope of dialogue session. There are others who would jump in excitement and impart all their knowledge to you so willingly. You need to find the right person.
Flip the newspaper and go to the section that talks about courses. Look through the courses that are available and pick something that interests you. Sign up and take a friend along if you must. However, do not make the mistake of just hanging around the same person. If you plan to take up dance classes, switch partner with someone else. Join the gym and make some friends while you shed some pounds.
Cooking classes are fun. Join one or conduct one. You will have loads of fun as you get to know more of the dishes and the ingredients while you whip up some great food.
Volunteering is the best idea. Look up the community centre near you and you will be able to load up on the ideas as to which causes to volunteer for. You will get the satisfaction of doing a good deed while you make new friends.
