1. Volunteer- Volunteer at a local shelter, a food pantry, or a day camp, places that you are interested in. Think of some places where you would like to lend your help and volunteer there once a week or every other week. Volunteering will divert your attention from stress and allow you to meet new people in different situations. Meeting these different people will broaden your perception and help you to peer into your own life. You might find yourself changing the way you perceive and think of things.
2. Read your local paper. You might come across the occasional tragic story of a young life cut too short or an innocent person hurt in a tragic accident. Read these stories and you will find that they will connect you to similar stories. When you read stories like these you give yourself a sense of harsh reality and will see that your situation is not as bad as those persons affected by a particular crime or accident. This will teach you to value your life and not to worry about those nuisances that cause you to stress.
3. Visit the pet store or the zoo. Visit the pet stores only if you feel comfortable around animals. Take a look at all the different kind of animals. Chances are you will become so entranced by one that you will forget about all of the things that cause you stress. You might even feel the urge to take one home.
4. Take a nap. Sleep the stress away. Lack of sleep influences stress. When you have nothing scheduled instead of spending that time feeling stressed and worried, take a nap.
5. Eat foods that release endorphins. Such as chocolates and sweets. According to organizedwisdom.com, chocolate, "stimulates the production of endorphins and contains serotonin." and "Endorphins can make you feel good and help with pain relief."
6. Write it down. Every time you are faced with periods of stress write it down. Writing down your feelings and thoughts will help you to clear your mind. You might also be able to recognize a pattern in your emotions and be able to take proper action to lessen the situations that cause you to feel stress.
