Six Most Wanted Features in Mugen

C.B. Jones
The Mugen game engine allows fighting game fans to mix and match characters from a myriad of franchises, and do combat in a 2d play field. Unfortunately, Mugen isn't open source. If there's a chance of Mugen's source code being released, fans can only hope the following features will be implemented in a future build.

Online play options.
Putting a thorough beatdown on one of your twitter followers who lives across the country, or maybe half way around the world, in Mugen would be awesome! I've already asserted my crouching fierce dominance locally. Doing it on a global scale against those who play Mugen with a controller or have to deal with the control scheme on a keyboard would present more of a(welcomed) challenge.

Interactive background elements.
It would be great to relive the moment of tossing Blanka into one of those oil barrels on Ken's boat stage from Street Fighter 2. Usable weapons in Mugen stages would add a good little pseudo Final Fight type of feel to the game as well. As of right now, any foreign weapons involved in fights are solely controlled and usable by characters who are programed to use them(Cody's knife and rock throw for example.)

In game move lists.
It would be great if Mugen's pause menu had the option for displaying a character's command list. Not everybody provides a novelist in their characters folder. Because there are a lot of different control styles in Mugen, it can sometimes be neigh impossible to figure out some of the fighter's more advanced attack sequences.

Auto update.
For a bit of uniformity, the program should be able to detect what stages and characters are compatible with whatever version of Mugen users are running at start up. An internal auto update/quick content patcher function would be useful remedying any and all problems that may occur from using outdated files.

Integrated editor.
What's needed to create stages and characters for Mugen? It depends. You could use McM, or Fighter Maker. When it comes to making sprites, you could use a separate image editor such as Gimp or Photoshop. Mugen bundled with an easy to understand creation package would be a greatly appreciated improvement.

SNK inspired Three For All mode.
SNK's King of Fighters series is known for it's 3 on 3 team battle system. This is nit picking, but the two of two mode that Mugen boasts isn't nearly as compelling. One thing that's used to compensate is the option to have one on two, or two on two simultaneous fights in Mugen. Still though, the strategy and drama KOF provides is severely lacking.
