Six Places to Find Free Patriot Day Remembrance E-cards

Remember Not to Forget on 9/11

Marjorie Wise
On December 18, 2001, President George W. Bush signed a bill to officially declare September 11 "Patriot Day". The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on October 25, 2001, 44 days after the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93. The bill passed the House with a vote of 407-0. Twenty-five members did not vote. Maybe they weren't there. The bill states that on Patriot Day, American flags at all government buildings are to be flown at half-staff, in this country and at American installations overseas. American citizens are asked to display a flag at home and observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46AM (Eastern Time), the time of the first plane attack.

Patriot Day is a day of remembrance. Nearly three thousand people died on September 11 2001, and they should not be forgotten. They were not at war nor in a combat zone. They were average people on a ordinary day, going about their lives, doing what they had to do. They had plans for the day, for the year, for the rest of their lives.

Take a minute to send an e-card. Remind someone to pause for a few minutes to remember the lives that were lost on September 11th. Say a prayer, light a candle, or simply be silent for a minute or two. We can't forget. Patriot Day cards express the thought that we remember, a prayer for peace, or that we are all in this together.

* Blue Mountain is usually not free but they are offering 12 free e-cards that they refer to as 9/11 Remembrance Support. Some cards you'll find here are Strength and Unity, Hope and Faith, and Memorial Quilt. I sent a card to myself to see if there were any requirements and there were none. http://www.bluemountain.com/category.pd?path=83045&

* Crosswalk has just 5 free e-cards but they're nice. Simple, with quotes. The one titled Patriots Day has a single saxophone behind the pictures and the few words. I like it. This Christian site is also free with no registration. http://www.crosswalk.com/eCards/carddisplay.aspx?Type=1&No=202

Patriot Day cards are not loud and flashy. Many are tearjerkers. A few have the poorly chosen words, Happy Patriot Day. It's not a day of celebration but a day to stop and remember of those who lost their tomorrows on September 11, 2001.
