Six Reasons Why I Love My Android Phone

J.E. Ward
I am the new owner of an HTC Evo Shift 4G for Android. I must admit, I was apprehensive about taking the big plunge back into a wireless service contract. The phone makes my relatively low monthly payments with Sprint for the next two years worth any and all trouble. Sprint's a pretty good wireless company, too. Android 2.2 Froyo is some of the latest technology available in the wireless market at the moment. Here, I will list just a few reasons why I'm glad to have the Android mobile device.

The Android system is a perfect sync for all Google email accounts. Once you have an account with Google, you should take the time to type in all your phone numbers, if you are not an Android mobile customer. If and when you become one, your phone will automatically have all your contact information, including Facebook, Myspace and Twitter with linking capabilities.

Imagine having pertinent information at your fingertips. If family members and friends have birthdates or other special occasions coming up, you will know well in advance with one of many calendar apps. You can set appointments and schedule reminders up to three days in advance.

Speaking of apps. There are hundreds of applications in Google Market that are useful and free. What are some of my favorites? Car Panel, Voice Search, ColorNote, Pandora, Flashlight, Camera, Voice Recorder, Calculator, Holy Bible, Google Search, Google Translate, Facebook, Twitter, Music downloads, Kindle and Weather. There are others that I want to try; just don't have the time.

Being that I'm a writer, my most favorite app is ColorNote. I can write my grocery list here and check off when items are purchased. I can also write a list of story ideas for AC and other venues. The other day, I wrote what became a four page literary work in ColorNote and sent it to my email to copy and paste into Word to edit and tweak. Eventually, I'll get around to the Quickoffice App.

I also enjoy multi-tasking on my Android phone. While having a phone conversation, I can do a search at Google Search to find out information about the city family members have moved to. While texting, I can go into Google Translate and find out how to text "hello how are you?" in Spanish, then copy and paste it into my text to sent to my Honduran friend Angelica.

The latest happy thing that makes my Android phone even more important to me is the fact that I can read articles written by my favorite contributors on Associated Content no matter where I am or what I'm doing (except driving - no texting or reading while driving). At first, the entire Associated Content page wasn't loading, and I couldn't leave a comment. Now it is loading, ads and all. I can leave comments, send messages, . . .basically everything I could do from a PC except publish. Probably because there' s no scrolling capabilities yet. I'm confident, that will come too.

With being on the go more than ever, and wireless phones evolving into wireless data efficiency tools, it's a wonder how we ever did without these charming, sleek mobile devices. I can't tell you how many times the navigation apps have saved me gas money due to being lost. HTC Evo Shift 4G for Android, where have you been all my life?
