You can save your hard earned money. Instead of working for months and blowing it all on a trip, you can have money saved back to go on bigger trips at a later date. You won't have to worry about having any of your personal belongings stolen, the most important of those being your cash or your high tech computer or Ipod. The money you save by not going away on spring break can mean a bigger trip during the summer without the large crowds that accompany spring break.
You can catch up on school work. You know that class you're having the horrible time in? The one with the teacher that you swear hates you? Well, instead of going away, you can stay at home and catch up on some work and knock that bad grade off your record before it really counts. After you catch up, you can get ahead by working on those large end-of-the year papers that are quickly coming up. You'll have more time to research and read the assignments to accomplish tasks that will make the end of the year easier on you. Less stress is always nice.
You can take on some extra work hours. Working extra hours means extra money. That extra money can go to the trip we talked about in the first paragraph. If you're not interested in a trip, you can save for items that you may want, but can't afford right now. Those items may include a car, a better computer or even the newest video game. What you want you can get just by picking up a few extra hours for that week.
You can spend time with family. I know that your family may drive you crazy sometimes (because mine does it too) but they do like to see you every once in awhile. Going home and being able to spend, even a few extra hours with them that week will make them feel better about you being in college. You can talk about how classes are going and what your plans are for the summer. They like keeping up-to-date with what you are involved in, now is a great time to tell them.
You can start unloading your dorm room. Spring break is very close to the end of the semester for many college students. You can start packing up items that you haven't used and have no plans to use the last few months you are at school. You can take them home and put them out of the way. Taking only a few boxes home will make move out day easier on yourself and any one else that may help you move. If you don't go home for spring break, you can't take anything home and you'll have to deal with everything else later.
You can catch up with old friends. Remember those friends you had in high school that you haven't seen in months? Instead of going with new friends, catch up with those that miss you most. Make a few phone calls and make it a deal to spend a few days out and about. You'll love catching up, and won't believe how many things have changed in just a few months.
Does spring break still sound appealing? Well by all means go! If you've waited for this trip for what seems like ever, don't drop it just because of a few simple suggestions. However, maybe next year you'll think twice about going.
