Turn up for work early every morning. If you start at 9am even arriving at 8.50 am will create a good impression. Your boss will notice your enthusiasm and realise you have a real interest in the job. An enthusiastic employee is much more productive than an unenthusiastic employee. This will not work though if your boss is consistently late and your good efforts will go unnoticed.
Do not take a lot of sick leave. Nowadays many people are tempted to 'pull a sickie' when the going gets tough in work, but make sure you are not one of them. Your boss is not stupid he knows the people who fake sick just to avoid work. Make sure you when you call in sick you actually are sick.
Keep to your set tea break times. This is another important point. If you get 1 hour for lunch make sure you are back within the hour. Coming back five minutes early is another way to impress your boss, whereas coming back late will only annoy him and your fellow colleagues. Upsetting your fellow colleagues is never a good thing and may result in them complaining to your boss, which is not at all to your advantage.
Volunteer to stay late when there are problems at work. Sometimes things go wrong in work and your boss will be looking around for people to do some overtime and sort out the problems. When this happens try your best to stay late and help, sometimes you may not be able too but other times it may suit you to stay and help. If you are saving your boss from having to stay late all the time he will forever thankful to you.
Be flexible and available to cancel leave at short notice. If someone suddenly falls sick and work are short staffed you may have to cancel your leave and work instead. In most cases you may be taking a vacation and may not be able to work but if you have no plans your boss will appreciate you if you cancel your leave and help cover staff shortages.
Gain extra qualifications related to your job.. If you do extra study and further your knowledge and qualifications it is a sure sign that you are interested in your job. Improving yourself and trying to be a better employee make all bosses' smile. They love nothing more than an ambitious employee who will do their best to learn as much as possible. After all more knowledgable employees tend to work more effectively and efficiently.
There are many advantages of pleasing the boss such as a higher chance of promotion, a pay rise and the fact that he may respect you and treat you well. A happy boss is much easier to work for than an unhappy one so make sure you keep impressing your boss.
