Six Ways to Show Your Love for Your Community This Valentine's Day

Lisa Belle
Valentine's Day is all about being kind and caring for others, so why not make this day your day to change the world? Here are six great and easy ways to improve the world on this year's international day of love:

Make Cookies for Your Child's Class

As a child, its lots of fun to celebrate holidays with classmates at school. Support your child's class party by baking or buying cookies and Valentine's Day Candy. Chocolate chip cookies, heart-shaped sugar cookies, or even cupcakes are all great treats for school. You'll be supporting fun and friendship in your child's classroom, and your child will appreciate your contribution.

Donate Blood

Blood banks always need donors, and lots of blood drives are held on Valentine's Day. To be a donor, you must be generally healthy and have half an hour or so to spare. Giving blood might be a tiny bit painful, but think of the lives you'll be saving by sacrificing a little bit of your time and energy on Valentine's Day.

Donate Old Clothes and Toys to Charity

Valentine's Day is a great time to collect old stuff and bring it to your favorite charity's thrift store. You'll help your local organization raise money while de-cluttering your house; it's a win-win situation! The money your organization makes will brighten peoples' day everywhere.

Recycle

Valentine's Day can be your big chance to start living green and begin loving the earth. You can do something as simple as starting a recycling bin at your house, or you could organize something as extravagant as holding a Valentine's Day Can Drive to beautify your world.

Sign up to be an Organ Donor

Signing up to be an organ donor can seem gross, but think of the seven lives you might save if you pledge to donate your organs. Making this pledge on Valentine's Day may one day give several people a new chance at life; what a legacy that is. Go to organdonor.gov for more information.

Volunteer

Simply volunteering your time and energy to your favorite organization on Valentine's Day is another great way to make the world a better place. Check out all kinds of volunteering opportunities at VolunteerMatch.org.

Valentine's Day is the perfect time to start making the world a better place, and whether you decide to be an organ or blood donor, volunteer, recycle, donate to charity, or bake cookies, know you'll be doing something wonderful for your community. Happy Valentine's Day!
