Sixth Street Steak house opened about six months ago in Macclenny Florida. This town is a rural suburb of Jacksonville Florida. Until this new restaurant opened, people living in Macclenny had to drive 30 miles to Jacksonville or 60 miles to the beaches to get a great steak or even a salad bar. The small city abounded with fast food restaurants and sandwich shops, but the new addition to the city has given residents an upscale place to eat.

The restaurant is owned by a local community member. Everyone knows him as George. George Lias and his son are co owners and managers. They purchased the restaurant and remodeled it from a cafe to a steakhouse. Modifications include new booths, flooring, new walls and an updated kitchen.
An added addition to Macclenny is the full salad bar available at Sixth Street Steak House. A partial salad bar existed at Pizza Hut across the street, but Macclenny has never seen a salad bar like this one at Sixth Street. George's salad bar comes complete with traditional salads and toppings, pasta salads and banana pudding. One of my favorite items that they have on some days is the home made Tabbouleh salad. Also, fresh blue cheese crumbles are available daily. In addition, two fresh home made soups are offered. The salad and soup bar can be purchased as a stand alone meal or in addition to a dinner.

Prime ribs and sirloin steak are the restaurants steak specialties. If steak isn't your idea of a great meal, try the fresh cod or shrimp. Hamburgers, sandwiches and traditional fare are also available for purchase. Even a picky eater can find something wonderful on the menu. Prices are cheap compared to other similar restaurants. The prime rib meal comes complete with a potato or rice, vegetable and bread for merely $14.99. The breaded cod comes with potato and a vegetable for just $5.99 for one piece or $6.99 for two. By adding a salad, you have a meal fit for a king. The salad bar as an addition to a meal, costs $3.99.

The staff at Sixth Street Steak house are familiar to Macclenny residents. Almost all of the staff worked at other area restaurants. The staff that patrons don't know, soon become friends. Many customers are known by name and you are greeted as soon as you walk in the door. Several times while making a request, I have heard waitresses says,"You are the customers." They are always there with a smile, thank you or just conversation if the place is slow. Where can you get a great steak and waitresses that know your name?

The restaurant added breakfast to their menu once their business skyrocketed. Prices for breakfast are at least comparable or even cheaper than the other breakfast establishment in Maccleny Florida. We usually order the two by four, which comes with 2 eggs, grits or hash browns, 4 slices of bacon and 2 pancakes. The 2 by 4 costs $6.99 . We often share it and most restaurants would frown on this, but Sixth Street always says, "Your the customer!" We always leave a nice tip for their hard work and courteous service.

If you want an upscale steak restaurant not far from Jacksonville that serves great home made food at a reasonable price with friendly service, go to Macclenny Florida. After all, people in Jacksonville drive 40 miles from one side of town to another, so whats 30 miles to the west for the best steak you have ever had!

Sixth Street Steakhouse is located at 1199 South 6th Street, Macclenny Florida. Their phone number is 904-259-7535. They are conveniently located just a mile off of the Interstate 10. George and Michael Lias will be happy to see you! Hours of operation are 5:30 am to 9 pm from Sunday to Friday and 5:30 am to 10 pm on Saturday.
