Sizzling Sensations

What I'm Watching Now

Melissa R. Mendelson
Tears of sadness pounded against the tides of finale, washing tv shows far out to sea. Endless questions drifted across the mist that now claims the island of the LOST, and no more clarity remains behind a wall of fog. My Heroes are gone. The storm gathered force, hurling one man out into the cold, but despair is denied from soaking into the legacy left behind. Never would we forget you, Jack Bauer. Fires dwindled under rain, but yet they rage from the hearth of soul, burning one last time into the sweet breath of Rescue Me. But finale licks at those flames, pulling ashes out to sea, but never would we forget the ones that changed our lives. Or the Winchester boys, who sacrificed all for us to survive, and my television set pours endless darkness across my night. What will I watch now?

5. Pretty Little Liars

Tell me lies, sweet kiss of lies, but beware the ears that they fall upon. Secrets are the jagged knife of betrayal and deceit, and trust is the mirror easily shattered. Life is far from simple, and the past won't sleep six feet under. Truth is the poison that floods through our veins, and denial is the fuel to its fire. And it is a loaded gun to the one playing games. Step gingerly for all words spoken, actions done, and honest mistakes will tear your life open, leaving you vulnerable, and snaring you in a web of lies and murder, and once exposed, there will be no concealing what you struggle to hide. So, tell me lies, sweet kiss of lies, but beware for all eyes are now following you in Pretty Little Liars on Tuesday nights on the ABC Family Channel.

4. Royal Pains

Bitter memories are the sunburns of the heart. We beg for time to soothe our wounds, wash our pain away, but still sand falls into open cuts, stinging with betrayal. Anger boils in our veins, but how could he be so foolish to trust him again? Doesn't he remember the days left burning in his wake? Doesn't he remember the million tears that poured into endless nights? Doesn't he understand those moments now left cold? A second chance lingers against a soft breeze, but does it carry forgiveness? Or is this another ploy to take all that they have achieved? Was it time to let the past go and let him back into his life? Questions sparkle like a million thoughts of ocean, and Dr. Hank Lawson struggles between duty to those waiting for his care and the bonds of family that strain under pressure. And the sun burns ground in a hot new season of Royal Pains on the USA Network on Thursday night.

3. Burn Notice

Like a moth to a flame, he pulled me in. His brown eyes were pools of heart and soul. I was bait falling for talent, and Jeffrey Donovan caught me, hook, line, and sinker. And now I can't turn away from a man transformed into the burned spy, Michael Westen, who drifts across an ocean of suspense, struggling to survive. A world ignites under a burned notice, and conspiracy are the high tides crashing in. Explosions rock with intensity, and we are gripped in the heat of passion, drama that fires away. And another chapter unfolds before the one no longer hunted, but does his life rest against the trigger of a truth that he has to hide? And when the high tides come in, would he still be standing, or would we be left drifting across a sizzling sensation on the USA Network on Thursday night?

2. The O'Reilly Factor

It was eight o'clock on a steamy, dark night. The slider door was left open, and cool air drifted into the family room. My father took his usual seat before the television set, and the rest of us kids slumped against the couch. And we entered the spin zone, where we met a formidable man, who Mike Tyson would even hesitate to get in the ring with. His persona overwhelmed the screen, and his voice was razor sharp with truth. But there were moments, when I disagreed with him, and there were other times, where he shined the spotlight hard on issues that I agreed had to be addressed. And I heard my father chuckle, and it was a pleasure to hear him laugh as jokes and punch lines chased headlines. And the hour melted into controversial issues and debates, and then it was time to reveal the pinheads and patriots. And now it was my turn to laugh, and that smile lingered over a few emails ready to rip and tear into tonight's venue. But this sagacious man remained firm in his beliefs, never accepting defeat, and ready for another round, another night. His words bring a bold fresh perspective to a world in need, and we stay tuned, spiraling to Mr. Bill O'Reilly's beat on The Factor on Fox News.

1. Chelsea Lately

It is a guaranteed dose of comedy, and with Loni Love at the round table, you know that you are in for a good night. On the ten o'clock hour, the hostess, Chelsea Handler heats up with improv, sending her audience into a tizzy, and setting the stage for an onslaught of comedic snaps, cracks, and slaps, but where would she be without her chunk of Chuy? Controversial headlines are set for discussion, but comics tear up the stage, ready to shine. Or was that Chris Franjola's bright teeth? We spiral with laughter, wiping our eyes, and begging for more especially when Josh Wolf isn't wearing his shirt, but the night is far from over. And at the end of every round table, we take a seat with celebrities and watch Chelsea dish out the dirt. Forget Letterman. Sayonara Leno. Make room for a new queen of comedy reigning over the late night on E and telling us like it is in books such as, "Are you there, vodka? It's me, Chelsea."
