Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon, Washington

Celebrated each year to usher in the spring months, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival attracts much more than flower lovers.

Lasting the entire month of April, the tulip festival provides activities for all ages. Not to mention the fact that traditional sightseeing of the Mount Vernon, WA and surrounding areas can be taken after the festival.

The main event of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is the tulips and visitors to the festival will be able to lay their eyes on hundreds of thousand brightly colored tulip bulbs grown by local and visiting festival vendors.

Arts and craft enthusiasts will also enjoy the handmade crafts fresh cooked foods available for purchase.

The schedule of events for each tulip festival is usually posted on the web by mid-January. This year, arts and crafts lovers can take in the quilt show or the quilt walk. The quilt walk is a unique experience in which spectators are guided through the streets of Mount Vernon and into local businesses that have volunteered to host quilters and their art.

The antique safari is a great event if you have any junk lying around your attic that you would like to have appraised. A licensed appraiser will be on sight to offer verbal appraisals.

For those who need more physical engagement than a walk through the flower fields, the Annual Tulip Run takes participants through a scenic 2 or 5 mile course across flat gravel packed trails. For people who have never been a fan of running, the Annual Tulip Pedal offers a good alternative. Bike the 20, 40, or 60 mile course...or go ahead and tackle all three.

Wind down after a day of taking in the sites by enjoying a flash back to the 80s. The Theater Arts Guild presents a creative depiction of the 1980s era through song with their "Back to the 80s" musical held at McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon.

Visitors who left the 80s and never want to look back will find the Battle of the Bands a refreshing event. Bands from all over the Northwest duke it out cash and prizes.

For the kids, the Children's Museum of Skagit County will inform, educate, and entertain your little ones.

As you can see from the above list, there's more to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival than just flowers and pedals. No matter what your interests are, chances are that you'll find something that catches the attention of your curiosity. If not, just keep in mind that Seattle is only 60 miles South of Mount Vernon.
