They slip through the air

held to earth at the end

of an etching

a Jackson Pollack canvas of ice

containing somewhere

configurations of thoughtful action;

skimming a frozen world

they enter a tenth of an inch

trying to leave it altogether,

the sound of blades

echoing as a tear

in depths dark and away

where fish kiss the ice

to listen

and view the shadows
