"Skating With The Stars" Premiere Recap

Oh my stars, this is a horrible show. Horrible. Simply awful. End of recap.

I can see why they didn't have more contestants now, because this is going to be painful. I also understand why bigger skating names didn't sign on either. It's a horrible concept.

Where to even begin? Let's begin with the judges. They are really the only reason to watch this show at all. We have our beloved Grandpa (he's our Uncle Tim Gunn's pretend Daddy) Dick Button. We love Dick Button because he says weird things that make us giggle. Like "Your feet below your feet", so that's fun. Then theirs our beloved little brother who won't stay out of our make up bag, the glorious Johnny Weir, and then...? Then somebody that doesn't belong near skating...Laurieann Gibson. She's a great choreographer, but um...not a good fit for this show.

Then we have Vernon Kay. I know...who? WHO? He's some british dude that is a reality tv curse, because everything he hosts? Canceled. Something tells me this show's next on his hit list.

Next we have beautiful bird brain Ice Dancer Tanith Belbin offering obvious and horrible commentary. She is a gorgeous girl and wonderful skater, but commentary like, "They will be wearing skates on the ice" isn't necessary. At all.

So let's talk Skating. Actually there were some surprises on the ice there. I thought Vince Neil, a former competitive skater, and Reality TV Gadfly and Product Pimper Bethenny Frankel were going to run away with this. But they STUNK. Seriously peee-uuuuu. I don't think Vince actually ever picked up his feet. And Bethenny didn't do much better. Really all she did was kinda glide around and use weighing only 75lbs to her advantage as her partner tossed her around like a rag doll.

Jill Zarin's actually a better skater....Ha! I can't believe it, but it's true! Poor Jillsy...

So that was a huge disappointment. Moving on...

Rebecca Budig was actually really, really good! I liked her skating very much. She's skated before, but actually seemed to retain some of that skill unlike Bethenny and Vince. I'm worried that she's not going to have the votes though, since she probably shares a lot of Bethenny's fan base, and those are some rabid people. They will give their Blessed Santa Bethenny de la Margarita all of the votes. So Rebecca might be in trouble.

Jonny Moseley was another surprise. He's got the best skater in the competition for a partner, and he's in contention as well. He'll get the guys' vote for a while. And he's cute, so that's always a plus.

Brandon Mychal Smith is the one to beat because he's a Disney kid and they're like talent ninjas. Youth is definitely working to his advantage. But right now I don't think he runs away with it just yet. There's some competition with Jonny, Rebecca and even Sean there...

Let's talk about crazy pants Sean Young! Wow! Here I thought she would be the disaster and she was actually quite good! She was by far the most graceful of the bunch and she has wonderful lines and body control. Not too shabby at all.

So this was a rough premiere for this show, if you ask me. It needs some work. But let's not forget Season 1 of Dancing With The Stars was a mess too so we'll have to see. I think Vince might be toast this week. What did you think of this show and the skating?
