The Secret I Am Not Supposed to Tell

Eighteen years have passed.

Yet I keep the secret, still.

It is not mine to tell.

To say it aloud,

Instead of just thinking of it

Every time I see you.

A thousand times I have stopped myself

Telling you what happened

After you left this town behind.

To be able to tell you.

You needed to know.

My heart shattered in pieces.

You had been with her.

Not with me.

And you left a disaster

In your wake.
