Ski in New York: Deals for Beginners

Growing up in New York City I thought skiing was something people did in the movies. You know, rich people swooshing down the slopes before lunch, it was just too fantastic to fathom. Little did I know that skiing in New York was a mere few hours away from us in the Bronx. Here are two ski resorts upstate with special offers for beginners.

There are quite a few resorts in the Upstate New York and Pennsylvania area, however these are two that have been recommended to me and both are near Cortland, which is about 40 minutes away from Syracuse.

Learn to Ski or Ride package includes: Rental, lesson and Badger slope lift ticket, after first rental and 1 ½ hour group lesson at special times.

You can visit up to three times in any given season for just $25.00 each visit, for ages 7 though adult.

Available from December through March

College nights are Monday and Tuesday nights. Show a valid college ID and ski or ride after 4:30pm for only $15.00.

For New Skiers and Boarders

Midweek is $35.00 and includes your rental, a 2 ½ hour lesson and lift ticket (chair 3)

Weekends and Holidays has the same inclusions as above but is $42.00.

They do have a money back guarantee, (from their website) if after one day you are unable to put on your equipment, ride the chairlift, turn left and right, control you speed, stop and start from the top to the bottom of the beginner slope you will get a 100% refund.

My family and friends will be choosing between these two resorts for my best friends daughters birthday weekend in mid December. We are all really excited since we have never been skiing. The teenagers are all going to learn to snow board. Maybe we'll see you there.
