Skiers and snowboarders have a blast at the resorts in Niseko, Japan. From December through May, foreigners and Japanese people frequent over 60 courses serviced by chair lifts and gondolas. The mountain is 1,308 meters high and the longest run goes for 5,600 meters. The resort dedicates 30 percent of its runs for beginners, 40 percent for intermediates and 30 percent for advanced skiers and snowboarders. This is a great place for couples, families and tour groups. Helpful links are provided at the end of this article.
Skiing and Snowboarding for Every Level: Whether ski and snowboard at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level, Niseko has terrific runs for you. Beginners can enjoy the Hirafu section where people of every age can take group or private lessons from several ski schools. Three wide, well-groomed winding trails with steep hills in the Higashiyama section are tailored for people at an intermediate level. The steep, tree-lined runs of Strawberry Fields and Miharashi are designed for advanced skiing and snowboarding. The most adventurous skiers and snowboarders can take a 20-minute hike from the highest ski lift to The Peak to reach mind-blowing speeds.
Nighttime Fun: Don't get up early on your vacation because you can enjoy nighttime skiing and snowboarding at Niseko. Brilliant lights offer a surreal winter wonderland experience as you glide through the fresh powder until 9 p.m. When the lifts and runs close, it's time to party and enjoy some Niseko nightlife. The best area to go for nighttime fun is as the base of Hirafu. Drink a beer in a cozy pub, dance all night to funky DJ's or sing at a karaoke bar.
Other Activities: Niseko has more than just skiing and snowboarding on offer. You can try snow tubing, snow rafting and snow shoeing. Take a swim in the indoor pool or relax in the outdoor hot springs. Sign up for a horseback riding and snow mobile adventure. When you get hungry, visit one of the many cafes and restaurants featuring Japanese, Korean and western style cuisines.
Accommodations: Relax in luxury accommodations on offer in Niseko or stick to your budget and spend the night at a backpacker hostel. Centrally located "ski in, ski out" apartments and chalets with stunning views sit close to restaurants, shopping and of course skiing and snowboarding facilities. Spend time with your friends and family as you enjoy the comfort of modern architecture and open living spaces. Some accommodations feature stunning views, outdoor Jacuzzi tubs and theater rooms.
